Divine Detours: Embracing God's Career Plan When It's Not What You Imagined

Over the years, a former leader in my life has consistently spoken to me about the potential in the Medical Device Sales space. This wasn't an isolated suggestion—my closest cohort from MBA school (before I withdrew after completing 1/3 of the program) was in this honorable profession and spoke highly of it as well. As I continue to reflect on my journey—balancing faith, family, and my calling—something profound has become clear to me.

The daily revelations I've been sharing recently are more than just reflections; they are a call to act with boldness and humility. And in this moment, I've come to realize the importance of surrendering fully to the will of the Father. He knows my heart, my desires, and my family's needs. This door to a new career has opened before me, and I'm now humble enough to step through it.

Today, I'm excited to share that I've made the decision to actively pursue a career in Medical Device Sales. It feels like a natural progression from experiences I've already enjoyed. As a shuttle driver over the years, I've thoroughly enjoyed speaking to countless doctors and their families traveling to Utah for the ski season and mountains in the summer. Those conversations planted seeds I didn't fully recognize at the time but now see as part of a larger pattern guiding me toward this path.

What I'm learning through this process is the beautiful truth about God's gifts in your life. When you ask, seeking His guidance with a sincere heart, He answers—but here's what I've discovered: His answers align perfectly with what you truly need, both for your mortal journey and your eternal progression.

The Lord extends this powerful invitation in Doctrine and Covenants 88: "Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." This isn't just poetic language—it's a divine promise that has transformed my approach to this crossroads in my life.

But there's something crucial I've learned about this promise. The scripture continues: "Whatsoever ye ask the Father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is expedient for you; and if ye ask anything that is not expedient for you, it shall turn unto your condemnation."

This gives me pause. Have you ever considered that what you're asking for might not be what's best for you? It certainly made me reflect—shouldn't I be more thoughtful about what I'm asking for? How can I know what is truly "expedient" for me?

I've found my answer in Doctrine and Covenants 18:18: "Ask the Father in my name in faith, believing that you shall receive, and you shall have the Holy Ghost, which manifesteth all things which are expedient unto the children of men." The Holy Ghost becomes your personal guide to know what to pray for.

I've come to understand what the Bible Dictionary teaches about prayer: "Prayer is the act by which the will of the Father and the will of the child are brought into correspondence with each other." This perspective has completely transformed how I view these moments of decision. I'm not praying to change God's mind about my path—He already has the gifts He wants to give me. My prayers are helping to align my will with His, opening my heart to recognize the opportunities He's prepared.

The more I've come to know the Lord—not just as Savior but as friend—the more I've learned to trust His vision for my life. When you truly understand who He is and His relationship to you, you realize something profound: He simply wants to give you all that He has. So why not let Him?

This isn't just a career change—it's a sacred step toward trusting God in all things. It's recognizing that sometimes the good gifts He offers require stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing new paths with faith. As I continue writing, sharing, and pursuing my faith journey, I'll also be taking practical steps to provide for my family through this new professional direction. It's all about bringing my will into correspondence with His through prayer, faith, and obedience.

I'm excited about the path ahead and the ways this new opportunity in Medical Device Sales will allow me to serve others, grow in wisdom, and continue to support my family. Each step forward is an opportunity to see how God's plan unfolds when I surrender my will to His and actively seek the blessings He's already prepared.

Thank you for walking this path with me. May you find the courage to let God give you all that He has prepared for you.
