Post 21: Knowing Your Divine Identity—You Are a Child of God

Embrace your divine identity as a child of God. Learn to align with His will, emulate Christ, and grow in His love, light, and power. Begin your journey to becoming like Him.

When you grasp your divine identity as a child of God, confidence replaces fear, purpose replaces striving, and joy flows from becoming like Christ.

Becoming Like Him—Your Journey of Eternal Growth

Have you ever questioned your worth or wondered why your efforts feel so heavy? When measured against worldly standards, it is easy to feel small or inadequate. Without a clear vision of your divine identity, life can feel aimless—like a ship without a rudder.

Understanding who you truly are changes everything. It transforms work into joy and striving into purpose.

You Are a Child of God

You are more than flesh and blood—you are divine. Every gift, talent, and attribute that God possesses exists within you as a seed, waiting to grow. Like a small bud that holds the promise of a tree, your divine nature is meant to develop into fullness.

God is the Father of Lights, like unto the sun. From Him shines forth the light of Christ, and the waters of life flow through His Only Begotten Son. The Holy Ghost is the mind of God, helping you process this light and living water, teaching you according to your capacity and understanding.

As you align your life with God, the Holy Ghost enlightens your mind, purifies your heart, and nurtures divine attributes—kindness, patience, love, charity, grace, and truth. You are not here merely to reflect God’s glory, but to develop His character within you.

Christ taught, “Ye are gods” (John 10:34). Through His yoke, you are invited to become what He is—filled with love, wisdom, and divine strength to do the works God prepared for you.

Steps to Embrace Your Divine Nature

Declare Your Divine Identity
Begin each day with the truth: “I am not only a child of God; I am becoming like Him.”

Live With Purpose
In moments of decision, ask: “What would someone striving to be like Christ do here?”

Seek His Mentorship
Emulate His character, perfections, and attributes in thought and action.

This is more than forming a relationship with God—it is worship in its highest form: becoming like Him. The yoke of Christ carries the weight of divine intelligence, enabling you to fulfill the measure of your creation and eventually receive all that the Father has as a joint-heir with Christ.

Though carrying this light may feel heavy as you become aware of the darkness around you, it is also the greatest joy. As you live the gospel and speak when necessary, others will come to recognize the same joy you have found.

Confidence and Holiness

When you understand that your relationship with God is already eternal—that you are His child—you act with confidence rather than fear. Obedience becomes an offering of love, not a transaction.

As taught by Elder Neal A. Maxwell, we are not here merely to improve a relationship with God, but to draw closer through worship, adoration, and obedience. Embracing your divine identity empowers you to rise to that call—to become holy, without spot, and one with Christ.
